We are made in the image of a creative God, who has given each of us gifts and talents. In Carmel we are encouraged to live to the full, and there is room for creativity even within the constraints of our life. Sundays, special Feast Days and evenings provide an opportunity for us to pursue hobbies and other interests.
For some this creative work may be expressed on loom or easel. For others, it may be wood turning, calligraphy, spinning, candle-making, photography, flower arranging or baking. Some Sisters love to create beautiful flower borders or to grow herbs, fruit and vegetables. Others enjoy playing musical instruments, including the harp, violin, organ, guitar and flute.
At recreation each evening, Sisters also engage in ‘little works’ (often creative work such as knitting, sewing or crochet). Each year we celebrate a Community Feast, and our handiworks are given to the Prioress to be given away as gifts.
